Bombardier marked NBAA’s opening with the announcement that the Global 5500 large-cabin business jet has 200nm (370km) more range than previously advertised, bringing the Rolls-Royce-Pearl 15-powered 5500’s reach to 5,900nm.

Bombardier marked NBAA’s opening with the announcement that the Global 5500 large-cabin business jet has 200nm (370km) more range than previously advertised, bringing the Rolls-Royce-Pearl 15-powered 5500’s reach to 5,900nm.

The news comes in addition to the Montreal airframer announcing a new auxiliary power unit (APU) maintenance programme, and plans to open two new US maintenance sites.

Bombardier had previously listed the 5500’s range as 5,700nm, which is 500nm more than the 5500’s predecessor, the Global 5000.

The company does not specify what factors have allowed the revision to 5,900nm. It calls the new figure “a byproduct of flight testing [and] configuration”, citing the 5500s new engines and tweaked wing. The aircraft can fly from Europe to the US West Coast.

Bombardier is also opening new line maintenance stations at Teterboro airport near New York City and Van Nuys airport near Los Angeles, it says.

Those sites will first provide unscheduled maintenance services and “in the coming months” offer scheduled maintenance, including wheel and battery services, the airframer says. With the new sites Bombardier will have 11 line-maintenance stations globally.

Bombardier has also announced an expansion of its services portfolio to include a new cost-per-hour service programme for the Global 7500’s Safran SPU300 APU. The plan covers repair or exchange of APU components, off-aircraft repairs at Bombardier service centers, work specified in service bulletins and the cost of associated labour.
