Cubic Defense Applications has won an $11 million contract to provide its P5 tactical combat training system (P5TCTS) to the Royal Australian Air Force.
The system will be used to train pilots of Boeing F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet aircraft, Cubic said in a statement.
"This new system represents a step forward for the RAAF," said Michael Rodriguez, senior programme manager of air ranges.
"Australia currently operates a fourth-generation Cubic air combat training system at RAAF Base Williamtown for training on its F/A-18 Hornet aircraft," Rodriguez said.
"This new system will allow for interoperability with the Lockheed Martin F-35 Joint Strike Fighter aircraft that the RAAF is planning to purchase in the near future. All F-35s for Australia will be delivered with an onboard internal P5 airborne subsystem," he added.
Cubic's P5TCTS system comprises internal and external pods, software and ground systems. It is designed to provide realistic combat training for pilots.
