Denmark is to acquire an undisclosed number of Northrop Grumman Litening G4 advanced targeting pods for use by its Lockheed Martin F-16s, with deliveries to start in August 2013.

Announced by Northrop on 25 June, the order also includes associated equipment including datalinks, plus spare parts, logistics support and training services for Royal Danish Air Force personnel.

Denmark has a current active inventory of 36 single-seat F-16AM fighters and 10 F-16BM trainers, as recorded in Flightlgobal's MiliCAS database. Part of its fleet - which is expected to be replaced by up to 48 of Lockheed's conventional take-off and landing F-35A - was involved in combat operations over Libya during 2011.
