EgyptAir's MRO unit has been selected as Boeing's first maintenance supplier in the Africa and Middle East region.

EgyptAir's MRO unit has been selected as Boeing's first maintenance supplier in the Africa and Middle East region.

Under an agreement signed by Boeing's global services arm and EgyptAir Maintenance & Engineering at the Dubai air show, the Cairo-based MRO provider will deliver aircraft, engine and component services to the US airframer's customers.

It has also signed a supplier agreement that will allow it to provide Boeing customers with parts provisioning, engineering support and line maintenance.

Boeing will meanwhile provide EgyptAir Maintenance & Engineering with landing-gear exchange and overhaul support, and supply parts for a quick engine change kit.

EgpytAir group chief executive Ahmed Adel states that the North African company is "optimising operations for our growing fleet, which includes a sixth 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, to always deliver a better experience for our customers".

He adds: "We are able to leverage the strength of a global supply chain network and increase efficiency by continuing to partner with Boeing."

EgyptAir Maintenance & Engineering's capabilities span the Boeing 737, 757, 767 and 777, as well as the 787.

Boeing Global Services chief executive Ted Colbert states that the Egyptian MRO provider "brings strong technical expertise with locations across the Middle East and Africa that enable us to better serve our customers in the region" .

Cirium fleets data shows that EgyptiAir's own in-service mainline fleet includes 29 Boeing 737-800s and six 777-300ERs, as well as the six 787-9s and 13 Airbus jets. Regional subsidiary EgyptAir Express operates five A220s and eight Embraer 170s.
