DUBAI: Leonardo to integrate more powerful radar on DA62 MSA

The Leonardo Gabbiano TS-80 airborne radar will be integrated on the DA62 mission surveillance aircraft (MSA), expanding the scope of the twin-engined type's capabilities.

The integration is expected to be completed by early 2020, according to Leonardo. In June, Leonardo and Diamond Aircraft announced the DA62 MSA, which uses Leonardo’s Airborne Tactical Observation and Surveillance (ATOS) mission system.

The DA62 MSA has already seen the integration of Leonardo’s TS-20 radar.

“The integration will expand the surveillance range of the DA62 MSA, widening the scope of missions it can perform and expanding its market potential,” says Leonardo.

“Leonardo’s Gabbiano radars have been selected by 14 international customers and have been installed on a wide variety of platforms. The TS-80 variant is named for the 80W of power it is able to output to achieve long-range surveillance.”

The DA62-MSA is designed for land or sea surveillance in countries that need a more affordable short- to medium-range special-mission aircraft. The baseline payload includes the TS-20 ATOS, along with a high-definition electro-optic infrared turret – all integrated into the operator’s touchscreen display.
