UTC Aerospace Systems is using the Farnborough air show to call attention to a new integrated drive generator developed for aircraft including the Embraer 190-E2 and 195-E2.

The unit was developed by UTAS during a 15-year period in collaboration with Pratt & Whitney, and the companies designed the generator alongside Embraer's design of the E2.

UTAS says the generator uses an existing P&W engine gearbox. It has 33% less volume and is 5% lighter than earlier compatible models, the company adds.

"The new IDG supplies the constant frequency electric power needed for the E2 jet, equivalent to the amount of electricity needed to power 48 homes, with the added benefit of cost and fuel savings," says UTAS.
