Nine months after ending a 15-year hiatus by relaunching production of the K-MAX, Kaman is at FIDAE to seek out customers for the heavy-lift utility rotorcraft.

The US company, which has orders for six aircraft and expects to deliver its new line from January 2017, believes South America’s rugged and remote terrain makes it an excellent market for the helicopter, used for forestry operations, construction, fire-fighting and medevac, and was orginally certificated in 1994.

“We want to find out more about the market, which is why we are at FIDAE, and we believe we can sell aircraft there,” says Terry Fogarty, director of business development.

The US Marine Corps deployed two unmanned versions, developed with Lockheed Martin, in Afghanistan.
