Field Aviation has been contracted to perform an avionics update on a fleet of Beechcraft T-6As operated for the NATO Flying Training in Canada (NFTC) programme.
Under the project, the Canadian company will equip 22 locally designated CT-156 Harvard IIs with a traffic advisory system, automatic dependent surveillance broadcast (ADS-B) transponder and wide area augmentation system GPS receiver. The enhancements will enable the single-engined turboprop to comply with the US Federal Aviation Administration’s incoming ADS-B Out regulations.
Field Aviation says its award covers the design, manufacture, installation and test of a modification kit for the Harvard II fleet, which is operated from the Royal Canadian Air Force’s Moose Jaw base in Saskatchewan.
Flight Fleets Analyzer records the NFTC programme as having a current 23 T-6As in operational use, ranging between 13 and 17 years old.
Ottawa early this year extended its NFTC relationship with CAE until at least 2023. The company also provides a fleet of 18 BAE Systems Hawk 115s to support the advanced jet training needs of the Royal Canadian Air Force and third-party customer nations.
