France’s navy has taken delivery of its 15th of an eventual 27 NH Industries (NHI) NH90 maritime helicopters, with the latest example also the service’s first in the final radar configuration standard.
Enhancements over previous iterations of the radar include better performance in rough seas, while improvements have also been made to the Thales Flash dipping sonar for better submarine detection and classification. The mission system also gains a digital map generator.
Known as the 'Caïman' in French service, the NH90 TTH performs a wide range of missions including anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, search and rescue, maritime surveillance, and special operations including counter-terrorism and anti-piracy.
NHI is a three-way consortium comprising Airbus Helicopters, AgustaWestland, and Fokker.
