GKN settles dispute with A350 wing-spar workers

Workers who had been threatening an overtime ban to disrupt production of wings for the Airbus A350 have now accepted a new pay deal.

Shop-floor employees at GKN Aerospace's Western Approach facility near Bristol in the UK, where carbonfibre wing spars are manufactured for the A350, last month voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action.

But members of the Unite trade union have since voted 98% in favour of a settlement which includes backdated increases for 2016 and 2017.

They will receive an across-the-board rise of 1%, backdated from 1 January 2016, and a further 3% rise backdated from 1 January 2017.
