Malaysia's maritime enforcement agency (MMEA) has taken delivery of three AgustaWestland AW139 helicopters, which it will use for search and rescue, coastal patrol and law enforcement tasks.

The Finmeccanica company will also provide support and other services for the aircraft, it says. In April it also delivered two AW139s to Malaysia's fire and rescue department.

The deal for the MMEA aircraft was signed in 2008. At the time AgustaWestland did not reveal the value of the transaction, but it is believed to total around $61 million.

AgustaWestland says orders for over 490 AW139s have been placed. The type has a maximum cruise speed of 165kt (306km/h), a maximum range of 1,061km (573nm), and a 5h endurance.
