Malaysia long-haul low-cost carrier AirAsia X has opened bids to add 12 lie-flat beds in its Airbus A330 aircraft.

To do so it will eliminate the A330s' 28 'XL' premium economy seats, says AirAsia X CEO Azran Osman-Rani in an email to ATI.

This will provide a more compelling product," says Azran.

In addition to the lie-flat beds it will add 16 normal economy seats, he says, adding that after the retrofit the capacity of the A330s will remain at 383 passengers.

According to Flight's ACAS database, AirAsia X operates three A330-300s,with 23 on order, and two Airbus A340-300s.
