Chinese company Intelligent Detection Systems is promoting a robot that automates the process of examining the exterior of aircraft for physical defects.

The company's CobotA1-A2 robot uses a proprietary infrared scanning system to quickly scan an aircraft for both surface and subsurface anomalies.

The target market for the system is the MRO sector. A company representative says the system is well suited to identifying surface issues such as erosion, cracking, water ingress in composite honeycomb structures, and other issues.

The Cobot can also raise its sensors, allowing it to peer inside turbofan engines. The company says this allows for quick, effective detection of issues.
