The Brazilian air force formally inducted its first two of 12 ex-French air force Dassault Mirage 2000s - including the two-seat 2000B (pictured below) - into service during a ceremony at its Anápolis airbase on Monday.
The delivery milestone, which followed a transit flight from Orange airbase in southern France, was attended by Brazilian president Luiz Inácio da Silva.
The surplus aircraft have been purchased as an interim measure, with Brazil later planning to revive its long-delayed F-X future fighter acquisition. Another two secondhand Mirages will be delivered next month, with the programme's remaining fighters to be transferred in two batches of four aircraft each in 2007 and 2008.
