Presagis offers off-the-shelf virtual reality

From an unassuming building on the edge of Montreal, Presagis designs technology that transports aerospace and military users to another, virtual world. The CAE subsidiary makes many of the simulation and embedded graphics packages that pilots and engineers rely on to train hands-on - but hands-off enough to learn by their mistakes.

The business was created four years ago when CAE acquired and merged three technology companies - each of which specialised in different areas of modelling, simulation and embedded graphics. Presagis operates largely autonomously from its parent to avoid competitor conflicts.

Presagis customers number around 1,000 in 60 countries, and include BAE Systems, Boeing, CAE, Lockheed Martin, Saab and the US Air Force. Its brands include Terra Vista, used to create simulations of terrain; VAPS XT, for designing virtual flightdecks; and Creator 3D modelling software.

It specialises in off-the-shelf products, providing individual tools or packages of tools, rather than designing bespoke software. Customers simply buy software licences, backed up by an after-sales service that includes annual upgrades and a call centre.

"That's our unique value proposition," says Robert Kopersiewich, vice-president of embedded graphics and mission critical solutions. "Customers are leaning to commercial off-the-shelf for cost-effectiveness. With our range of products we can provide an end-to-end solution."
