Qantas Airways group experienced falling traffic in August but the dip is less than previous months.

The airline group says RPKs in August fell 1.4% year-on-year and capacity, as measured by ASKs, fell 4.8%; while August passenger numbers rose 6% to 3.4 million passengers. The carrier fails to provide a reason for the figures.

The Qantas group comprises the international and domestic operations of both Qantas Airways and low-cost subsidiary Jetstar Airways.

Qantas' domestic RPKs rose 0.3% and ASKs fell 4.8%; while the carrier's international RPKs fell 11.5% and ASKs fell 14.7%.

Jetstar domestic's RPKs rose 0.7% and ASKs fell 5.5%; while Jetstar International's RPKs rose 28.1% and ASKs rose 28.8%.

The group's 1.4% fall in RPKs for August compares to a 2,1% fall in July and in February there was a 10% decline.
