The UK Ministry of Defence has placed contracts worth a combined £7 million ($13.6 million), under which two companies will provide mission system support services for its Royal Air Force fleet of three British Aerospace Nimrod R1 surveillance aircraft until at least March 2011.
Raytheon of Falls Church, Virginia, has been awarded £4.6 million to provide post-design service support for the Nimrod R1's Starwindow signals intelligence equipment and Project Extract mission systems, with its contract including options to continue the deal until March 2013.

Surrey-based Marlborough Communications is meanwhile to provide repair and calibration services for the reconnaissance aircraft's Starwindow mission payload, with its £2.4 million contract to run until 2011.
