Finmeccanica is giving a Singapore air show debut to its new “one company” structure, having from 1 January re-organised its previously subsidiary companies into operating divisions.

“It is the first time to come to Southeast Asia in a new configuration as one company,” says Giovanni Soccodato, executive vice-president of strategy, business development and innovation at the Italian aerospace and defence firm.

But with a further rebrand, driven by chief executive Mauro Moretti, likely to take place ahead of the Farnborough air show in July, Singapore could also be Finmeccanica's final big event in its current guise.

Soccodato declines to be drawn on any possible names under consideration, however. “When it is decided it will be announced,” he says. “When it happens we will know for sure.”

Any future change has the potential to cause more confusion, coming on top of the renaming that took place from 1 January. This saw the creation of a number of new Finmeccanica divisions, including helicopters and aeronautics, that have absorbed the activities previously conducted by companies such as AgustaWestland, Alenia Aermacchi, and Selex ES.

However, Soccodato is unconcerned about the ramifications of a possible rebrand. “[The change on] January 1 is more about the way we operate,” he says. “The possible rebranding is about the way we present ourselves to the outside world.”

Finmeccanica's aeronatics division has a presence in the static display at Singapore in the form of a C-27J tactical transport operated by the Royal Australian Air Force.
