Updated to reflect that fifth KUH-1P has yet to be delivered.

The South Korean police have placed an order for three additional Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) KUH-1P Surion helicopters.

The three aircraft will add to the four KUH-1Ps already in police service and an additional unit to be delivered at the end of 2018, says KAI. The rotorcraft will be delivered in 2020, and bring the total police fleet to eight.

The KUH-1P, which bears the name "Chamsuri", is especially well suited for long range missions to South Korea’s islands, says KAI. Its hoist is also complemented by cameras that allow the crew to more easily see people on the ground in mountainous regions.

The first two examples entered service in December 2013.
