The UK Ministry of Defence has confirmed details of a planned flypast which will take place during the Royal Wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton in London on 29 April.

Two formations of Royal Air Force aircraft past and present will be flown over Buckingham Palace at 13:30 local time, the MoD says.

The first group will include an Avro Lancaster, Hawker Hurricane and Supermarine Spitfire from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, which is based at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire.

A second package of four of the RAF’s current strike aircraft will follow 30sec later. Flying in box formation, this will comprise two Eurofighter Typhoons and two Panavia Tornado GR4s (below), the MoD says. Both types are currently involved in the UK’s Operation “Ellamy” contribution to NATO-led operations against the regime of Libyan leader Col Muammar Gaddafi.
