The US Department of State has approved the possible sale of 12 Bell AH-1Z attack helicopters to Bahrain.

Worth an estimated $911 million, including training and support services, the deal is being concluded under the Foreign Military Sales process.

Munitions including Lockheed Martin AGM-114 Hellfire missiles and BAE Systems Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System II guided rockets are also listed in the approval notice.

If concluded, the deal would mark only the second export sale of the AH-1Z Viper, with Pakistan having committed to acquire 12 examples.

Bell had previously hinted that Manama was a likely customer for the Viper, pointing to its existing fleet of 22 older-model AH-1s.
