Han returns to Minneapolis
Northwest Airlines has recruited its former finance specialist Bernard Han as its executive vice-president and chief financial officer to replace the retiring Michael "Mickey" Foret.
Han spent five years at Northwest before joining America West Airlines in 1996, eventually being promoted to the same position he now assumes at Northwest. Han has played a key role in America West's fiscal turnaround and helped it become the first US major to win federal loan guarantees.
Before joining Northwest for the first time, Han spent three years with American Airlines in financial planning and analysis. He earned a bachelor of science, master of electrical engineering, and master of business administration from Cornell University. Northwest chief executive Richard Anderson joked that "having Bernie back raises the collective IQ of senior management here significantly".
Although retiring, Foret will serve as a consultant to Northwest under an exclusive contract, remaining in Minneapolis area to be near the Northwest headquarters. Foret was also chief executive of Northwest Airlines Cargo, a position that Northwest president Doug Steenland will assume.
