Amid much fanfare, Embraer unveiled the name and interiors of its first foray into the light and very light executive jet market earlier today.

The very light jet is called the Phenom 100 and the light jet will be known as the Phenom 300. Maurício Botelho, president and chief executive, made it clear that these aircraft are just the start of an ambitious plan to introduce even more new business jet aircraft.

“The Phenom executive jets are part of us building a successful program,” says Botelho. “We are here to stay and want to become a real player in this industry with a comprehensive range. We will not just keep the Legacy range and the two Phenom jets.”

Botelho adds that the names of the new aircraft are an attempt to convey the qualities inherent in the designs. “We found that the name came out very strongly, and better translated its superior characteristics and ability.”

The Phenom 100 will carry up to eight occupants and be powered by 1,615lb thrust (7kN) Pratt & Whitney Canada PW617F. Its range will be 1,160nm (2,150km) flying at 41,000ft (12,500m) with four passengers and a maximum speed of Mach 0.70. The Phenom 300 will be powered by 3,200lb-thrust PW535Es. It will accommodate nine passengers and has a range of 1,800nm with four people on board. It will operate at Mach 0.78 and fly at 45,000ft.
