Turkey has restarted talks on acquiring the Israel Aircraft Industries Arrow anti-tactical ballistic missile system to fill a long-defined defence requirement. The move follows the deal with Boeing to produce missile components.
Turkey is the NATO member closest to Iraq and other countries with short-range weapons such as the SS-1 Scud. Israeli sources say Turkey may purchase two or three Arrows, and that an Israeli delegation is expected to visit Ankara shortly. Turkish officers have visited the Israeli air force base where the first Arrow battery is operational.
The Boeing deal may ease concerns in Turkey about its strong defence links with Israel.
