oneworld partners American Airlines and British Airways have applied to Washington for permission to codeshare on behind and beyond gateway services. The application excludes all of the crucial London Heathrow-USA routes. The Bermuda II bilateral between the two countries allows for system-wide codesharing, but applications by the two partners for this have been turned down by Washington in the past. A bid for antitrust immunity by the carriers was rejected earlier this year.
