Operations at Paris Orly airport are being heavily disrupted by an air traffic control system failure.

French civil aviation regulator DGCA and Orly operator Paris Aeroport state that a “breakdown” in air traffic systems is leading to delays and cancellations for 19 May.

The two organisations are advising passengers to contact their airline for information.

According to a NOTAM issued for Orly, the problem relates to a “technical issue” affecting radar screens at Orly approach control.

This is disrupting both approach and Orly tower operations.

The NOTAM requests carriers to reduce their flight schedule by 15% on 19 May, across most of the day.

It says carriers will be able to shared schedule reductions if such modification proposals are submitted to the DGAC.

All flightplans for services not conducted must be cancelled, it adds. The schedule request does not apply to territorial continuity flights.

Eurocontrol’s network operations centre states that the regulated arrivals owing to the radar failure are leading to “high delays” at Orly.

Orly handled over 203,000 flights and 33.1 million passengers last year.
