EVA Air was due to launch services from Taipei to Macau, Los Angeles and Panama in December and will begin Hong Kong services in February.

Emirates has launched services to Ho Chi Minh City and Nairobi, both on a twice weekly basis. Elsewhere the carrier has launched Mercator, an information subsidiary that will supply systems and services to airlines and airports in the Middle East, Africa and the CIS.

Aero Bengal, Bangladesh's recent domestic start-up, has begun operations three times daily between Dhaka and Barisal.

United Airlines has launched a daily service from Los Angeles to Washington/

Dulles, using a B777. The carrier will also begin a daily service from Washington/Dulles to Las Vegas from March, with an Airbus A320.

TWA was to start a daily service from New York/JFK to Santo Domingo from December with an L.1011.

American Airlines will place its designator code on Qantas flights to Auckland and Melbourne from Los Angeles.

Air Jamaica was set to start a daily service to Newark via Montego Bay from its Kingston base in early December. Elsewhere the carrier will rename Trans Jamaican to Air Jamaica Express, following its investment in the airline.

BWIA has taken a 29 per cent stake in Liat, the commuter airline which operates in the eastern Caribbean and which is currently being privatised.

Virgin Atlantic Airways will operate a daily service from London/Heathrow to Washington/Dulles from May 1996. Elsewhere Virgin has teamed up with Ansett Australia and Malaysia Airlines to offer special fare packages for UK travellers.

EBA Express, the Belgian independent, was to launch a daily service from Brussels to Milan/Linate from mid-December, and will add two weekly frequencies to its existing Rome service.

British Airways finally received the first of 15 B777s, and began operations on two Middle East routes, on which most of the 777s will fly. Meanwhile BA and USAir have created Airline Technical Services to offer joint third party maintenance in the Americas.

Charter airline Excalibur Airways has been bought by Edinburgh-based tour operator Globespan. The East Midlands-based independent was owned by 3i, Air Malta and its executive directors.

Crossair has launched a twice daily service six times a week from Basle to Manchester, using the Saab 2000. The carrier has also begun services daily to Prague from Basel.

Estonian Air has launched four flights a week from Tallinn to London/Gatwick, using a B737-500.

Air Belfast's subsidiary AB Shannon was set to operate a twice daily service from London/Gatwick to Shannon using a BAC 1-11.

Cargolux has launched a new weekly service to Madras from Luxembourg, and has added a second weekly flight to Johannesburg and Cape Town.

KLM Cargo has introduced a twice weekly service to Penang, Malaysia, which is being operated by US carrier Atlas Air.
