Brazilian Helicopter Services (BHS) is investing over 75 million reals ($24 million) in new helicopter types following pressure from Brazilian state-owned oil company Petrobrás, with which it has 13 offshore contracts.
BHS director Décio Galvão says Petrobrás is demanding fleet renewal by all operators that provide offshore services for the company as the maximum airframe age of helicopters serving Brazilian offshore rigs is limited to 20 years.
This month the country's second largest offshore operator will add its third Eurocopter AS332L2 Mk II Super Puma and another Sikorsky S-76C+ to its 15-helicopter fleet.
BHS is also finalising modification work on an emergency medical services-configured Sikorsky S-76A to expand its services, Galvão says.
