Sales of the Boeing 737 have passed through the 4,000 mark as a result of top-up deals from various Next Generation 737 customers.
American Airlines has concluded a deal for 25 more 737-800s, bringing its total 737 orders to 100. The newly ordered aircraft will arrive between January 2000 and January 2002. Alaska Airlines has signed for up to 10 more Boeing 737s. The deal includes firm orders for five 737-700s, plus four Next Generation 737 options, and a firm order for one 737-400 "classic".
Delta Air Lines' firming up of one 737-800 option at the beginning of May took total 737 sales to 4,000 orders. Bavaria International Aircraft Leasing has added two more 737-700 orders for delivery in the third quarter of 2001, bringing its tally to six. Air Berlin has taken up two 737-800 options for delivery in early 2000, and placed options on two more.
Total 737 orders now stand at 4,035, of which 1,144 are for the Pratt & Whitney JT8D-powered -100/200, 1,990 are for the CFM International CFM56-3-powered -300/400/500 and 901 for the Next Generation (CFM56-7-powered) 737s.
