AEROVIRONMENT The unmanned aircraft and efficient electric energy systems maker boosted pre-tax profits by 34% to $7.8 million in its first quarter ended 2 August, attributing a 9% revenue rise, to $53.6 million, in part to its Global Observer high-altitude long-endurance unmanned air vehicle programme. In 2007 the US Special Operations Command contracted the company to build a new version capable of flying non-stop for up to seven days.
