Middle Eastern carrier Emirates is ordering 40 Boeing 787-10s.
No engine selection has been made, said chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum at the Dubai air show.
He describes the agreement as a "commitment".
Emirates also operates an extensive number of 777s.
