Malindo Air will start its first service to Japan with a Kuala Lumpur-Taipei Taoyuan-Sapporo route on 23 March.

The carrier will deploy Boeing 737-800s on the thrice-weekly service.

"We are pleased to announce Hokkaido as our first destination in Japan, which marks a new milestone, being the 17th country that we service in our network. Travellers can now travel in comfort on full-service airline at value fare with us," says the airline's chief executive Chandran Rama Muthy.

FlightGlobal schedules data shows that the airline will compete with China Airlines, EVA Air, Peach, and Scoot on the Taipei-Sapporo route. It operates alongside AirAsia X, China Airlines, EVA Air, and Malaysia Airlines on the Kuala Lumpur-Taipei route.
