Beijing’s second international airport will meet navigation conditions by the end of September 2019, paving the way for its opening shortly after.

The Beijing Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development shares that construction of the airport is progressing on track, with a target to be completed by the end of 2018, and that the gateway will meet navigation conditions by September the next year.

A local media report also quotes local authorities as saying that operations will begin on 1 October 2019.

When completed, the new airport, located in the Daxing district, will have a 700,000sqm terminal, four runways and 268 parking stands.

The airport is around 46km from the city centre, and 67km from the existing Beijing Capital International airport. The new Beijing gateway will help ease congestion at BCIA, and also allow for more carriers to expand their networks out of the capital city.
