Singapore Airlines' (SIA) first Airbus A350-900XWB has completed its maiden flight in South West France.

The aircraft will now enter the final phase of production, which includes additional ground checks and test flights. The jet will be prepared for delivery "in the coming weeks", says Airbus.

When contacted, SIA was unable to say when it will take delivery of its first -900. Flightglobal's Fleets Analyzer however lists the jet, to be registered 9V-SMA, as scheduled for delivery by end-February.

The Star Alliance carrier has 67 -900s on order and will look to deploy them on non-stop services to the United States, with the planned Singapore-New York service coming into effect in 2018.
