The Beriev Be-200ChS amphibian twinjet has been declared operational by the Russian transport ministry and Rosaviakosmos. This follows Russian AP-25 certification in late June. The Be-200ChS is a customised version of the Be-200 designed for Russia's emergencies ministry and will be used for firefighting, search and rescue and medical evacuation. The ministry has placed a firm order for seven aircraft, with eight options, and deliveries will begin this year and continue to 2005. Ministry pilots are due to begin training shortly at Beriev sites in Taganrog and Gelendjik. US approval is planned for 2005.
