TAP-Air Portugal has selected the Collins GLU-920 multi-mode receiver (MMR)to equip its recently ordered fleet of 16 Airbus A319s and six A320s.
The MMR is a single unit designed to ease precision approaches using the instrument-and microwave-landing-systems, and the global-positioning system. The 22 aircraft, deliveries of which start in December, will also be fitted with Collins WXR-700 weather-radar systems for forward detection of clear-air turbulence.
Meanwhile, Collins' GNLU-910 multi-mode global-navigation landing unit, which combines global-positioning-system-based navigation and advanced flight-management-system capabilities, is to become standard equipment on AI(R) Avro RJ85s and RJ100s. The GNLU is expected to be certificated on the type in late-1997, and production aircraft installations will begin in mid-1998. The upgrade will also be offered as a retrofit for existing Avro regional jets.
