Tunisair has ordered five Airbus A320neo twinjets, the airframer’s latest backlog figures have disclosed.
The North African carrier appears to have swapped a batch of outstanding Airbus orders as part of an agreement for the re-engined type.
Tunisair had previously ordered 10 A320s, as well as three Airbus A350-800s and three A330s, during a fleet-modernisation deal in 2008.
But the latest Airbus backlog figures, covering the first eight months of this year, show that a single outstanding A330 and four A320s have been removed from the Tunisair agreement.
Tunisair has instead been listed as a customer for five A320neos through an order placed on 15 August.
No engine selection has been given, although all of the carrier’s current A320-family jets are fitted with CFM International CFM56 powerplants.
CFM offers the Leap-1A for the A320neo, against the rival Pratt & Whitney PW1100G.
Tunisair has taken delivery of two of its three previously-ordered A330s. The airline cancelled its deal for the A350-800s in 2013.
