++ Aeronavali has been selected by Ten Forty to convert 20 ex-Japan Air Lines McDonnell Douglas DC-10-40s to cargo, for delivery between 1998 to 2005. ++ Amarillo, Texas-based Leading Edge Aviation Services has opened its fifth paint hangar, becoming the first independent commercial-aircraft painting centre in the USA able to accommodate widebodied aircraft. ++ Pratt &Whitney Eagle Services has signed a three-year, $40 million, contract in which it will maintain 25 JT9D engines for Evergreen International Airlines' fleet of Boeing 747s. ++ GE Engine Services has received a three-year contract to maintain 97 CFM International CFM56 engines for Emery World-wide Airlines' fleet of McDonnell Douglas DC-8-71s and -73s and a 20-year contract to maintain the CFM56 engines ordered by US Airways to power its A320-family aircraft. ++ Miami, Florida-based Aerothrust has won a three-year, $23 million contract to maintain JT8D-17 engines for Sun Country Airlines' ten Boeing 727-200s. ++ Associated Air Centre is carrying out a C-check, corrosion-prevention and ageing-aircraft- programme maintenance work on a Boeing 747SP. ++ AAR has received a one-year, $12 million contract from the US Marshals Service to maintain and support 11 aircraft, including Boeing 727s, used for prisoner transfer. ++ GAMCO has received a contract from Saudi Arabian Airlines for rear-spar modifications on three further Lockheed L-1011 Tri Stars, following work on the first five aircraft which were recently completed. GAMCO has also been contracted by Onur Air to carry out C checks on its Airbus A320/A321s. ++ Boeing Wichita has been contracted by Japan Airlines (JAL) to convert four Boeing 747-300s from domestic to international configuration. The first aircraft will arrive in Wichita in November 1998 and be delivered in January 1999, while the last aircraft is due for delivery in November 1999.
