Indian low-cost carrier IndiGo is unlikely to receive its first Airbus A320neo this year, following an unspecified delay in the delivery schedule.

The airline had been due to take its first Pratt & Whitney PW1100G-powered aircraft on 30 December.

But parent InterGlobe Aviation says it has received official notification from Airbus that the delivery has been delayed for “industrial reasons”.

InterGlobe has not clarified the nature of the problem that has led to the hold-up.

But the company says it “does not have clear visibility” over its A320neo delivery schedule, and adds that there is “potential” for “additional delays”.

“We are looking at mitigating the potential shortfall in capacity through other options,” says InterGlobe. The company states that it received notice of the delay on 17 December.

IndiGo has 430 A320neo jets on order.

Airbus has been confident of delivering the first A320neo before the end of the year, although it will no longer go to Qatar Airways as originally planned.

Lufthansa will instead be first in line to receive the re-engined type. Airbus has yet to confirm a delivery date for the aircraft.
