American Airlines has ordered an additional four Embraer 175s, with deliveries to begin in the fourth quarter of this year.

The four aircraft are in addition to an order for 60 E175s placed by the airline in 2013. American's regional subsidiary Envoy will operate the four additional aircraft.

"This new order continues to show their [American's] confidence in the platform. We also commend the Envoy team on their exceptional E175 operating performance,” says Charlie Hillis, Embraer's vice-president for sales and marketing, North America.

The aircraft will be configured with 12 first class seats, and 64 in the main cabin, of which 20 will have additional legroom.

Embraer says the four aircraft will be included in its second quarter backlog.
