Air Malta has elevated chief operating officer Joe Cappello to chief executive, succeeding Ernst Funk. Cappello has held senior management positions at the airline since 1976.

Christoph Müller, a member of the executive board of TUI in charge of airlines, has taken on the additional role of acting managing director of Hapagfly. Müller replaces Wolfgang John, who left to pursue interests outside the TUI group.

Morton Leth, vice-president in the financial division of Carlsberg Breweries, has moved to Scandinavian Airlines Danmark as chief financial officer. He succeeds Soeren Busk, who has transferred to SAS Cargo.

United Airlines named 22-year company veteran Sean Donohue to the new post of vice-president for customer experience. Donohue, who also has been in charge of regional United Express, helped launch Ted and ExPlus, its new regional jet service. Meanwhile executive vice-president of strategy Doug Hacker has left after accepting a compensation package.

Former Atlas Air chief executive Richard Shuyler has been appointed chief operating officer of Macau-based start-up Viva Macau, which aims to launch low-fare services this summer.
