US firm Moog has been selected by Airbus Military to supply fly-by-wire actuators for the European A400M transport, including electrohydraulic actuators for ailerons, elevators and certain spoilers and electrohydrostatic actuators for additional spoilers. The initial $50 million contract covers the development phase. Meggitt Safety Systems is to supply products for the Japan Defence Agency's C-X transport and P-X maritime-patrol aircraft, under development by Kawasaki Heavy Industries. Prototype first flights are planned for 2007. Lockheed Martin and Sikorsky have each received $56.5 million US Navy contracts to cover continued risk-reduction activities in support of their bids for the VXX US presidential helicopter replacement programme. Rolls-Royce is to extend a trial contract with the UK Ministry of Defence to provide in-service support for the RB199 engines powering the Royal Air Force's Panavia Tornado fighters. The extension takes the value of the pilot scheme to £12 million ($21.8 million).
