L-3 Communications' aviation products division (A9-14, OE14) has won additional Embraer contracts to supply systems for the KC-390 tanker-transport aircraft.

It will supply the Brazilian airframer's defence and security division with its GH-3900 electronic standby instrument system, FA5001 cockpit voice and data recorder and Micro Quick Access Recorder, as well as its traffic management computer already selected for the KC-390.

Last month, Boeing agreed to collaborate with Embraer on marketing and developing technologies for the tanker-transport, which is to be delivered to launch operator the Brazilian air force in 2016 and has also attracted commitments from elsewhere in Latin America, plus the Czech Republic and Portugal. A competitor to Lockheed Martin's C-130J, the KC-390 is to make its maiden flight in 2014.

Boeing, meanwhile, has pitched for a 36-aircraft order from Brazil, offering its F/A-18E/F Super Hornet in competition with the Dassault Rafale and Saab Gripen.
