The operator of Tokyo’s Narita airport – the world’s most expensive to serve – has reached its first agreement with IATA on fee reductions. It covers fuel supply facility charges, which Narita International Airport (NAA) says will be reduced by 4.6% from October.
IATA and carriers serving the airport continue to seek landing fee cuts. NAA has proposed to cut landing fees by up to 31% through a new system of fees based on aircraft noise rating, rather than on a flat rate per tonne.
However, airlines say the airport aims to cut into those reductions by increasing other charges, such as for parking, the use of boarding bridges and baggage handling systems.
