Scottish textile producer Replin Fabrics is using the Aircraft Interiors Expo as a launch pad for a new type of anti-stain fabric for use in aircraft cabins.
Replin's Eclipse range is a lightweight fabric for use in partitions, bulkheads, class dividers and seating pods. The fabric is treated with a chemical which enables it to repel liquids so they can easily be wiped away. The company's business development director, Hamish Campbell, says the material provides an alternative to traditionally-used leather and laminates.
"Eclipse offers a wipe clean plastic effect on a wall covering with the luxury of fabric and the infinite ability to create patterns," says Campbell. "It offers a home from home feel, but red wine and coffee stains are no longer a problem."
Campbell says the product, which has been under development for three years, is unique to the market. And that's the way Replin plans to keep it: "If I told you what chemical we used, I would need to shoot you," he adds.
