New heads for the Italian and US air forces have been named respectively as Gen Sandro Ferracuti and Gen JohnJumper.

Ferracuti replaces Gen Andrea Fornasiero, who is retiring, and was previously the head of the Italian air force's operational units.

Jumper succeeds Gen Michael Ryan who retires next month. Jumper is currently head of the USAF's Air Combat Command and was previously commander, US Air Forces in Europe and commander, Allied Air Forces Central Europe.

Meanwhile, Maj Gen Branislav Petrovic replaced Lt Gen Spasoje Smiljanic at the end of last month as commander of the Yugoslav air force.
