Honeywell launched a new series of portable cockpit information systems at the show yesterday.
The Bendix/King AV8OR includes a handheld multi-function display for the recreational pilot, while the AV8OR Horizon 3D and AV8OR Vision 3D are synthetic-vision equipped portables for pro pilots.
For the recreational pilot, the AV8OR Handheld offers advanced GPS navigation for aircraft and auto, moving map, and real-time weather, as well as a built-in entertainment system. It features a high resolution 4.3-inch diagonal touch-screen, and simplifies in-flight navigation with an on-screen keyboard, “Touch-and-See” identification of map objects, and “Touch-and-Drag” map panning. Conveniences such as Bluetooth interface for wireless weather, alternate GPS receiver interface, cellular phone interface and optional external interface to WxWorx XM Satellite Weather receiver are combined with unique features such as Smart Profile, a vertical profile view of the flight path relative to terrain, airspace and obstacles.
“The AV8OR Handheld not only gives the recreational pilot in-flight navigation, but he can take it with when he leaves the cockpit, navigate in the car to find the hotel, and play favorite songs or watch movies when he gets there,” says Chad Cundiff, vice president, crew interface products for Honeywell.
For the professional pilot, the AV8OR Horizon 3D includes a Samsung tablet PC with high resolution touch-screen display, and the AV8OR Vision 3D features a touch-screen display and remote-mounted computer module. Both systems include air data sensor, attitude heading, reference system and GPS, and interface with optional traffic sensors and datalink weather receivers.
The Horizon 3D and Vision 3D also include synthetic vision graphical rendering of the environment providing the pilot with a realistic view of the aircraft position and situation, real-time satellite weather information, topographic terrain and aeronautical navigation information.
The AV8OR is available for $749 from the booth in Hangar B, (2081-2086). In addition, customers who purchase any of the three AV8OR models will receive a coupon good for $250 off select WxWorx receivers.
