Emergency medical missions in Mexico will receive a shot in the arm when Air Ambulance America takes delivery of four new Sikorsky S-76C+ helicopters.
The organisation, which provides life-saving airborne aid to some of the most remote parts of the country, signed an agreement with Sikorsky this week.
Worldwide
The deal takes to 38 the number of S-76 helicopters deployed for aero-medical use worldwide.
It follows hard on the heels of a contract between Sikorsky and Oklahoma company Air Evac for Tulsa to provide a medically configured S-76C+ to serve the state's Hillcrest Healthcare System.
Jeanne Osborn, Sikorsky's aero-medical marketing manager, says: "The Mexico contract is another important milestone in our aero-medical programme. It clearly shows that new S-76 helicopters can make financial sense in the right circumstances."
The craft feature a state-of-the-art glass cockpit, an IFR communications/navigation suite and a full medical interior. The cabin can accommodate up to two patients and four attendants.
Sikorsky points to the 155kt cruise speed which it says can be a crucial factor in emergency situations. The S-76 also features retractable landing gear to permit ground taxying close to the scene of accidents.
