The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission will haul Dubai-based Emirates into court over alleged price fixing between 2002 and 2006.

"The ACCC alleges that between 2002 and 2006, Emirates entered into arrangements or understandings with other international air cargo carriers that had the purpose and effect of fixing the price of certain fuel charges, security surcharges, and rates that were applied to air cargo carried by Emirates and other airlines," says the commission.

Emirates is the ninth airline to be the subject of similar proceedings. Last year, the Australian federal court ordered Qantas Airways to pay penalties of A$20 million ($16.5 million) and British Airways A$5 million.

An Emirates spokeswoman says that the airline denies the allegations and will defend itself in court.

The ACCC is also undertaking proceedings against Singapore Airlines Cargo and Cathay Pacific Airways.
