Space Models, the industrial model-making company whose miniature creations can be seen in halls all over Le Bourget, has gone full size at the CFM stand in Hall 2, D16.
The British company has produced life-sized engine doors and a pylon for the huge CFM56-5BV on display. Made of glass fibre composite, the model parts took four months to make and involved travelling to France and Germany for research with various manufacturers.
CFM and Space Models have enjoyed a successful relationship in the past, says Gilles Dandicol, CFM's marketing relations director.
Value
In July this year, Space Models will celebrate 46 years of model-making. Besides aircraft, the company turns its skills to power plants, missiles, ships and military vehicles. "We can downsize objects or make them bigger but we've never done anything like this before," says managing director Brian Pugsley. "The sheer size was the biggest challenge."
